I have been wanting to start a food and fitness blog for a few years but with small children in the house I just couldn’t seem to find the time to sit down and do it. I’m just not one of those incredible women who can juggle five things at once and still get the laundry done and dinner made. I like things to be calm and I hate to hurry and rush.
But the idea of my website just wouldn’t go away. But it did start to evolve. I have been experimenting with making my own body products for a few years and considered it a hobby. But one day I stopped and realized that so many of the products I was using had a whole bunch of questionable ingredients.
I was reading an article about how toxic deodorant is and it hit me, My mom is recovering from a year of chemo, surgery and radiation because of breast cancer and I’m still spreading a whole bunch of chemical over my arm pits. I hadn’t really thought about it until that moment. That, and the scary statistic that said your skin absorbs at least 60% of what you put on it and in some places like your armpits, that goes up to almost 100%. For me, that was it. I went online, read some reviews of some all-natural deodorants, chose one and haven’t looked back.
That was the beginning. Now I have a bathroom counter covered with products I’m making or wonderful products I’ve found from researching or, in one case, a lotion my husband discovered walking through the Denver airport.
My youngest daughter’s preschool has an annual Art Show & Craft festival and I knew I wanted to have a booth and share what I’m learning and what I’m finding.
So, with less than three weeks until the big day, I signed up for a table and since then it’s been absolutely crazy but a whole lot of fun. Life has definitely been more stressful than I like but I know it’s all worth it. And the coolest thing has been hearing my daughters talk about “mama’s business” and how they want to help me with it and make their own products for kids.
